Yes, that can happen. To reduce the number of files, use multiple tiles per file.

I've been at this problem for a year or so now, conversing back and forth privately w/ cristian. I first encountered the problem with the a900 and I read people were using it successfully on sprint w/ the a920, so I went out and bought the a920 just because of that, and still had the problem. I had my 2 phones through aliant, which is the Newfounland Bell. The only conclusion we came up w/ is that the GPS fucntionality is locked down by the provider, needing a certificate of some sort in order to access the information.

It really ticks me off. We pay for these phones, we own the hardware. Low level GPS functions should be made available to us.

try going to options>advanced>tcp and put the following information in your apn settings:

apn:internet.com
usr:wapuser1
pas:wap

I am not sure what network your w/ though, that's for the rogers network. the best thing to do is call up your cell provider and ask them what the APN server address/login/pwd is. I had to do this in order for mgmaps to display maps.

wierd problem there. I downloaded mgmaps straight from the wap browser in my pearl and it installed fine.. the only problem I am having now is that it likes to delete itself at random intervals. :S

How did you manage to get it to install? I'm stumped as I know other people have been getting it to install. I tried re-formatting the jar, the jad, different versions, all to no avail.

Your install was failing during the initial install during "finishing installation" when the bar was 1/3 across right?

es una sugerencia si se podria ver los mapas guardados en sd cuando navegue en 3d como lo hace garmin y una pequeña flecha que indique la direcion en el mismo mapa ojala no te molestes por lo que escribo esto

no se si pudiera poner la opcion de configurar el zoom el inicio y el final
por que yo bajo mapas con zoom de13 a 18 y con el boton de zoom
de mgmaps se pierden los mapas porque parece ser que llega hasta zoom de 20 porfabor
aparte de que ya has puesto (zoom 1-3-5)
(zoom 2-4-6) esta mejor

Great tool.

But instead of creating a poligon on the screen to be converted on the map tile coords would it be possible to use a previously created poligon by another app? My question came from the need downloading the tiles folowing a route that is too long to draw on screen without selecting unnessessary tiles. The perfect solution would be possible to import a route created on GoogleMaps and choosing a "coverage distance" along that line to be downloaded, but that was already sugested here some time ago. So I managed to create a poligon based on the google route and thats the basic function of your tool. Hope you got the idea of what i,m triyng to do.

Is it a temporary cache, or a permanent cache? Ie: does it store 384K (or whatever user specifies) on the memory card, or does it use 384K of phone memory for temporary caching?

The memory cache is just temporary, it stores browsed map tiles in phone RAM memory. The "stored maps" cache is permanent, it is stored to phone memory (flash) or memory card.

No, because that's the position used when starting the application

I think that would look odd too. Anyway, if you really want to use shortcuts, I think it's not that difficult to repeat a few times and then remember the positions of the menu options and the sequence of numbers to press for a specific option.

Yes, they will be upgraded (search, favorites will be reorganized, "Go to" will be moved in a Map menu that will also contain quick shortcuts to zoom in/out/move map/switch map type,... )

GPS for blackberry is already functional... I've only tested it over bluetooth with an external receiver, other users have tested the internal GPS too. There may still be some problems -- like having to start Blackberry maps before starting MGMaps in order to get a GPS position fix.

Hello everyone,

Got the BlackJack II, installed Google Maps and tells me it neads internet connection to work. I make a little bit of research and found the MODACO GPS Activation resolving issue; so downloaded the hack and when istalled, it said that it may not be seen right, because it was made for an earlier win mobile version? is it really working, how do I know?
And I see everyone talking about the COM ports but I dont even see a GPS set up item on the settings menu, so do I really have a GPS receiver on my phone? And last but not least, should I soft reset to make this work?

Please give me working options!!! I really want this gmaps thing to work.

Maybe there's another Sprint Sanyo 7050 user out there that could fill me in on their luck with the stand alone attempts and the info on Sprint's data plans which I've had little luck getting details on.
I didn't grasp the concept of AGPS until just today, so yes I would agree it needs a source for the additional data.

hmmm, I don't know then. I have an 8830 myself. and 2 doesn't seem to work. Even in joystick mode. logically, 2 should be up, 6 right, 4 left, and 8 down. but on the 8830, it's 6-down, 4-right, h-left, and nothing scrolls up. the only way I can scroll up, is if I hit 7 to rotate the map upside down, and then hit 6, which will scroll up the map.

I am sure the last time I used ur software, it worked.....I was able to see the routes......am not sure if it was Google or Yahoo India....it worked like a charm....it was about 5- 6 months back......

Hey Cristian - Do we have to input something in the proxy. I just noticed that when MGMaps is running there is a small connectivity sign (Red & Blue) on top right end of the screen. I am sure it is not connecting to your server thats why I am not able to see the maps. Can you suggest proxy settings.

ok, I'll consider something like that (expand maps for missing zooms) for future versions. Though that may need even more memory.

Thanks for the feedback, I don't know what causes the errors on the phone with newer versions. Could be memory needs (which have grown as the software was developed), or something else. Anyway, if you find the point where it stops working, let me know.

The phone crashes when enabling traffic most likely because of memory full errors.

It happened. I had my phone stolen by one of my stalkers about two weeks ago. I was pissed. I was cussing up and down about how "if only I had the silent update&exit functionality of mgmaps I've been begging for, I could get my phone back" .... I ended up having to call and suspend my service because I couldnt find out who had my device. But whoo hoo.. before I suspended it, the mailbox got full of nasty voicemails of the folks this idiot was calling from my phone.

I managed to get my phone back nine days after it was taken. It was placed into my mailbox at home. I un-suspended the service, for a $10 reconnect fee (!), and here I am.

Not only would aprs support be fantastic (for me!), but a silent "update&exit" functionality would be fantastic for myself and all those many other users out there that would enjoy some lojack style functionality from their device....or keeping their position updated on mgmaps without having to leave the application open all the time, making the phone unusable. Or parents to keep track of their children... the list goes on and on. And it doesnt even have to be specialized.. the generic version done this way would suffice. Pretty please?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean, but it would be a good idea to have it automatically zoom-in or zoom-out on an area if no map is available for the current zoom level and if in offline mode (in online mode there should be something implemented on the server). However, this requires some changes to the cache folder format (and configuration files) so it's not exactly highest priority.

Umm... I don't know. Maybe the download failed for some map tiles, gMapMaker is usually silent about that and doesn't report such failures.

I have just received a request from IBM asking that I remove the WEME downloads available at http://www.mgmaps.com/weme as they are an unauthorized redistribution. Even if they are free, IBM probably wants you to log in to their website before downloading those files in order to track their usage. You can still download the files from IBM's website (anyone willing to set up some torrents? )

In other news, it seems that Esmertec JBed may be a good alternative to WEME, as it supports stored maps. If this gets confirmed by several users, JBed will become the recommended choice for running MGMaps on Windows Mobile phones. But thinking of the future, it may be a problem if I decide to make it commercial in any way (shareware, or even ad-supported) -- that's actually one main reason why it's not open-source.

Hm - seems to be a general problem with satelite images of north west germany.
I joined the OSM project http://www.openstreetmap.org some days before and realized exacly the same problem:
Maps and satelite images (they use Yahoo! images) are shifted against each other for about 2 km.

So bad - but we don't have to look for a problem with MGMaps or gMapMaker.

Does anybody know a way to contact Google and Yahoo and inform them about this problem?

Oh, ... IBM is not exactly a software company, they have other products that look much worse. My opinion is that WEME was created some while ago, especially for corporate users, where the IT dept or the app developers would install it together with the needed java application(s).

OK, I didn't know that... at least the Windows-XP version of J9 has the browse button (but you have to install the JSR-75 libraries first as described in the installation doc).

Anyway, I'm more interested about the internal GPS... does it work in JBed? (does your phone have an internal GPS?)

I suggest you download only very small amounts of satellite maps from Google, as they have some kind of protection and temporarily ban you for 24 hours if you download more than 200-300 satellite tiles. Other than that, the rules to follow would be the same as for any other maps, select the area on mapcacher.com, download the .map file, use gMapMaker to download the actual map tiles, then transfer them to your memory card. Hi fellow sufferers...LOL,
after spending a few hours on this "brain damaging" "Filesystem storage is not supported on this phone" error, I have realised that JBed works great if are storing the maps on your Storage Card. Just use the Browse button after you install the JBed and you are good...!!!

If you are getting this error, the first thing to do is get rid of IBM J9 (forget abt applying that so called fix of fileconn.dll and fc.far, it DOESN'T work, period).

Install JBed from http://forum.mgmaps.com/download.php?id=329 (thanks to Cristian Streng) and now you can set it to any folder using the Browse button.
