Ovi map on MGmaps?

HI, I just got a LG GD900, and trying to get a navg. prog for it. I used to have nokia phone, with the ovi maps, is it possible to use these maps for mgmaps?

Hi there

I've spent a good deal of time carefully downloading and managing my maps using the perl tools (I'm on Linux), and am disappointed to not be able to get them working on my phone.

The first problem is that I couldn't download the signed jad/jar, my phone would bail saying "no root certificate found" or something like that, and as such I downloaded the unsigned jad.

That aside, every step was followed to the dot, and I know the path to the stored maps is correct because upon selecting the folder MGMaps automatically exits the browse screen and has the path set.

After all that, though, it doesn't appear to be working because there are no images for anything at all.

O problema deve estar no configuração do Proxy, estou na mesma situação.
Infelizmente o programa não permite colocar um único proxy, com autenticação.

Ok, I've made significant further changes. Just untar the attached file, and run mapTileFE.py, passing your desired .map file as a parameter.

The first time it sees a .map file, it will scan it and work out the URLs needed to be downloaded. It will remember this for next time.

Then it runs the actual fetcher, which is pretty fast, and stores the results in ~/.mgmapscache. At the moment there's just one file per file, so it's not super efficient with your disk space, but this is just on your computer, not your mobile device, so it's less important, and a bit easier to maintain.

Third, it starts up a daemon which serves files from the cache, and uses it to run the MapTileCacher.perl a second time, adding the tiles to your MGMapCache directory.

Please let me know if you have any problems. I'm quite happy with how it's looking now, and after I take any feedback into account I might see if Christian can list this script with the others for generating stored maps.

Mobile GMaps or MGMaps?

I am having trouble getting MgMaps to work correctly on my Nokia E55. I am using version 1.39.21 for N95 and most E series phones. Problem seems to be that MgMaps doesn't recognize that the E55 has a QWERTY keyboard. So the zoom in, zoom out function doesn't work with the # and * keys. Other key shortcuts give mixed results. Any advice?

access to Map Overlays for GE offline?

It seems that this is exactly what the Hybrid overlay is. I've been able to do some manual downloading of the .png tiles, and type in the lat/long in GE & this worked very well for creating a flat overlay at a low zoom level (see attached file). This is not a super-overlay (http://code.google.com/apis/kml/documentation/kml_21tutorial.html#superoverlays), so it shows the same from all zoom levels in GoogleEarth.

Obviously doing things by hand, tile by tile, is NOT the way to go for higher zoom levels, and it would be nice to have a dynamic super-overlay like the original network linked one.

gMapMaker works well for automating the downloading process. I just had to tweak it a bit because in Google-Hyb mode it downloads both the Hybrid overlay and the Satelite Image (as it should). But since I just wanted the Hybrid, I went into gMapMaker.exe.config file (backing it up first) and copied the url for the GoogleHybrid to GoogleMaps, and just used the program in GoogleMaps mode, so as to download one thing: the Hybrid overlay.

The problem now is how to reconstruct this MGMapsCache back into a kml file, Because I have a bunch of tiles with no coordinates for placement. It would be great if there was a MGMaps to .KML converter, but I've found no such thing. The x and y values in the file naming convention (ie. 291_389.mgm), combined with the zoom level stated in the name of the containing folder (i.e. GoogleHyb_10) can be used to deduce the coordinates, and I imagine this is how MGMaps knows where to put them. More detail on this x,y,z tile values and how their extracted from the Lat Long can be found here: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/scrapbook/googlemap.aspx

I would like to reverse this process and use the xyz values to get the Lat Long. Theoretically not too difficult I imagine, since it's probably a matter of reversing the algorithm in the above link. However with no experience scripting/programming or building kml files, it's a formidable task for me. Any assistance welcomed, and please let me know if I can be of assistance.

It works correctly on three other Windows machines, and at least two of them are running Windows XP (I don't know which version DavidOttawa uses).
I think, I'll wait for more feedback about running mapcache on Windows XP.
If this bug reappears on some other machine, too, I'll consider migrating my app to the other GUI toolkit - FXRuby.

UPDATE
DC#draw_bitmap patch is loaded by analysing the RUBY_PLATFORM constant (it should match /mswin/). You can check it with

It's not different, Bing is actually the new name for MSN Maps / Virtual Earth Maps / Live Maps

It depends on the number of tiles, because the files are larger and they can only be read sequentially from java apps on some older phones (possibly 6680 too)

Just worked that out then saw your reply, thanks.

For others with Nokia's and the like it's to do with the MIDP2 authentication access to your phones resources http://wiki.forum.nokia.com/index.php/MIDP_2.0_API_access_rights which needs the signed version to give MGMaps the correct rights.

Download the signed .jad for your version from here http://wap.mgmaps.com/13/index-all.html delete the .jad that came from the normal download and rename the signed version from mgmaps-1_39_2x-signed.jad to mgmaps-1_39_2x.jad. Load mgmaps-1_39_2x.jar to your phone.

I have a similar problem. My KM900 always get the same variation on latitude. Always -29 degrees from the real latitude.

As a developer I can implement a calibration feature, and I was going to do this. But i couldn't figure out where is the source code of mgmaps.
I read in the site that it is not open source.

So, if you can point to me where I can download the source code, I can implement this feature and share with you.

FIXED

OK sorted this one myself; it was my Nokia (6275) but not immeadiatley obvious where to make the changes.

Goto; Menu/Log/Positioning/Positioning and set to "accept all" otherwise look into setting up personal rules for MGMaps under this menu

Why this is under Logs and not Settings escapes me.

How do you ensure wifi is used first? Even I turn on wifi in front of my router, GT505 will turns to GPRS after 2 seconds.

no uninstall.exe, or when deleted its not gone?

Do you want to uninstall gMapMaker? If there's no uninstall in add/remove programs you can just remove the files from C:\Program Files like you tried. The per-application settings are in gMapMaker.exe.config under C:\Program Files, the per-user settings are in user.config under C:\Documents and Settings\<your username>\Local Settings\Application Data\gMapMaker\gMapMaker.exe_StrongName_<...>\<version> (or C:\Users\... on Windows Vista/7). Nothing is saved to the registry.

I don't know if other users have asked for this, but is there a way to reload a saved .map into mapcacher (http://www.mapcacher.com/) or another program and display the area bounded by the .map file?

I want to be able to see exactly the selected area, and to possibly re-save the .map file with mapcacher using a different level of detail (Fast and Rough vs Slow and Detailed).

I have installed the mgmaps succesfully, also using the www.mapcacher.com, I have succesfully generated all the offline maps and copied to internal storage of my Omnia.

However, when I try to browse the maps, it seems that i can only browse it from "root1/" directory.

Is it possible for me to browse the maps from the "My Storage" or "Storage Card" directory of my Omnia. They have bigger storage size that allow me to put all the offline maps.

Please share your experience. Really appreciate it

I try to install mgmaps.jar to my feature phone and download all the google map data under MGMapsCache in MMC memory card. But it cannot work. Whatever I set to map data path. Have any advice for me? or my phone is not support this software, because of it is a samsung self developed OS?

Hi there
I have a really strange problem with my GPS.
Every single time I tried to get my position I got the correct Longitude. But the Latitude has always the same diversion, around -30 degrees.
If I am at Latitude -20, GPS shows -50. If I am at Latitude -21 GPS shows -51. Reeeally strange.
Anyone has any idea what can be the problem ?

I wonder if there is a way to configure mgmaps to work with a diferent latitude, so all maps will have the real latitude less 30 degrees.

I've used this fine program since 2007, however, I lost my last Sprint Sanyo 8400 and had to replace it with another a couple months ago and have not been able to successfully reinstall MGmaps since. Each time I try to download the Signed.jad v1.39.20, it gives me error 909 "Application Authorization Failure" as the download completes.

Before downloading MGmaps I activated the current Sanyo 8400 at http://developer.sprint.com and checked to insure ##3282#>Advanced>Dev Certificate was On.

1. Could some certificate date be the problem?

2. Has anyone else had success installing v1.39.20 on a Sanyo 8400 recently?

if you edit the permissions of google maps it will stop deleting mgmaps
options->applications->googlemaps->edit permissions->interactions->application management (set to deny)
this is how it looked on my storm2 but it will differ depending on what os your running

Hi guys,

All of you have done an incredible job. Thank you all. I am a BB neophyte so I apologise for the many questions but I would really like to make this work. So, I followed directions and have downloaded the MGMaps on to my 8830 BB SD card. I am now able to see my position(through internal GPS) on a moving map without a Data Plan ( I even asked Sprint to block my Internet access just to be sure of no charges. I still have the voice contract). My questions are:

1. Can you use MGMaps to get directions from Point A to point B?? If yes, how do you do that?

2. When I look into the main Menu of the application I see "online" and "offline" choices, and both include the "Directions" sub-menu choice. When I use the "Online" Directions choice I get a "searching error" message when I use the "Offline" I get "Use Offline bot to build database". So, how do I get "Directions" to work so that I can go from A to B??

3. Back to the main Menu. When I click on "Go to" I get a set of GPS coordinates what do I do with them and how does the "Go to" works??

4. Under GPS there is a toggle between Start/Stop GPS Navigation, which one should I use (that is when I see "Stop GPS..." that means that the Navigations is in the "Start GPS..." mode? and vice versa? )

Again sorry for the many qestions and i would appreciate some guidance. Thanks a lot

On my phone the directions on screen are written in white squares that occupie too much space and also they tend to accumulate and by doing so not improving this problem. Otherwise it´s working very well.

I suppose everyone else also have this thing with a little less than half the screen being occupied by fixed screen-navigation stuff such as arrows and stuff. Is it possible to take these things away?
Also, while I´m at it, voiceguidance would of course be great, but I suppose it is difficult to do.

Hi, yes I have the same problem. I had it working alright with the signed jad, so I know how good the program is.

Unfortunally I had to uninstall the program and now I get the Authentication failed or validation failed reply.

Does anyone know how to solve this?

Hola amigos veo que nadie a respondido a mi pregunta pero bueno sigo intentando... buscando por todo el foro y probando versión por versión encontré esta MGMaps 1.39.01 la cual se instala bien sin problemas llego a las configuraciones metí la carpeta con los mapas que descargue y hice todas las configuraciones como sale en el tutorial

todo bien pero la aplicación se queda pegada y luego al intentarla abrir por segunda vez me sale error de aplicación y no se abre intento abrirla por tercera vez y si abre pero las configuraciones se han perdido intento ponerlas nuevamente pero se vuelve a pegar y sucede siempre lo mismo ya intente instalarla de nuevo pero siempre es igual probé otras versiones pero no funciona ninguna espero su ayuda gracias..

yes i used 17 level on that area. i tried to make a map of Cluj napoca on 17 zoom level and it worked ok, around 38 MB.

Thank you Cristian for this incredible program.

Reading through sebastien's message, I get exactly the same behavior on my Motorola KRZR K1 (GSM) using Microsoft Live street maps and Google street maps.

Cache sizes I used: 384, 1152, 1536, 2304, 3072.

I tried everything that sebastien tried, as well as varying the number of tiles per file
- 1 tile per file with hash97,
- 32 tiles per file with hash 1.

I get the same behavior of blank tiles when scrolling too far in any direction, or if I zoom in or out more than 2 levels, although this is not always consistent. With 1 tile per file, I can sometimes zoom in or out more than 2 levels before blank tiles appear.

Note that when blank tiles appear, they were initially visible so they did download correctly.

Closing MGMaps and reopening it will load the tiles correctly when previously they would appear blank, just as in sebastien's case. This behavior seems to be consistent on my phone.

I am using the development version of MGMaps (1.42.01).

Thanks in advance to anyone who may have come across this and has been able to find a workaround.

Again. What an amazing tool this is!

P.S.: Note that my phone does not have a GPS module inside which does not seem to matter.

I use a Sony Ericsson c702, which as an inbuilt GPS receiver. I use is offline, it works great, and it has a 2gb M2 card.

Yes, the output thing still works, but I agree it would be really great to be able to see the path itself, and not only the points. Is there anybody working on it?

I think that's the only feature I personally miss: being able to follow the line, not only seeing the points (which is kind of useless for me).

installation works fine with the JAR files but come up with permission problem.
if I tried to install the signed JAD files on this phone. it gives me the following message:"Operation failed."

any solution for this phone?

also, after installation, when tryinng to access the GPS reciever connected to the phone via bluetooth, returned this message: "GPS funtionality is not available on this phone." any ideas?

我新買的手機Sony Ericsson W205安裝後如果用離線地圖會一直詢問讀取使用者資料的許可，造成幾乎無法使用這個軟體，而且用gps接收器也說手機上的gps功能無作用。

我想w205這隻手機可能是鎖東鎖西，造成這個不能裝，那個不能用的現象，真糟，不曉得有沒有辦法解這隻手機的鎖。

Hi guys, I've been lurking for long time, and eventually I decide to ask again about the KML issue. Will MGMaps be able to use paths out of a KML file? I've tried it by surfing the forum looking for answers, but none came out and I think it would really rock if we could just import a regular KML file from Google Earth or Google Maps and just import it in the cell phone.
