Just arrived from Beijing today.
Before the trip I fixed the offline maps of the Beijing and copied to my phone. When I started the MGMaps in Beijing, I saw satellite and road maps overlay perfectly.
Now I can say I will navigate in China without problems

Hi,

Hate to bump an old thread, but I thought my post was more relevant here than in a new thread.

I too would love to see APRS-IS support in MGMaps. I first heard of this project via the MGMaps predicessor, mAPRS.

mAPRS looked almost perfect for what I wanted, except one thing -- it refused to talk to the phone's GPS (built-in) and expected one via Bluetooth. I couldn't see any option to configure it to use the internal one either. Research lead me to install MGMaps, which while nice, it does lack the one feature I was after.

Thus, a proposal. Seeing as MGMaps is now open-source (and I have mirrored the Subversion repository), is it possible that perhaps the old mAPRS applet could be similarly open-sourced?

This would allow those of us who truly want this feature, to be able to merge the two projects and finally put this TODO item to bed.

In the meantime, I am researching the problem, and may look at how I can scratch the itch myself, although for me it's a semi-low priority task ... I recently bought myself a VX8-DR to do the APRS.

I have finally become in a position to upgrade the firmware - not an official version, but the gps works perfectly now.
for information, i used the information on the darkforest group forum on upgrading firmware - you need an unlocked phone to do it unofficially.

I'm getting a tab soon, with gps, so hoping to get that going with some freebie software!

Hi everybody, it seems very exiting software and I have tried to install and prepared all the maps etc. Problem I faced was that my LG GD880 Mini does not display these off-line maps and I suspect that the path I gave to my unit is not correct. I would be easy if it is possible to brows the location in the phone but I couldn't find such function from my unit so the path to the maps location should be written without any feedback if its correct or not. I am very grateful for any ideas or help for trouble shooting

Best regards
hi all, anyone use microsoft mapcruncher to calibrate scanned maps? It seems that all information about calibration point are saved in a file .yum but I don't understand how the x and y point are saved. I would like to convert this file in a "standard" format like .map or .gmi, someone know if exists a tool to do that?
thanks

Hi! Unfortunately there is a problem in the case of maps of large areas. Map files in this case a lot (1000000 and more) and the phone does not see a lot of files. It would be convenient to all the files can be packed into 1 file and the program to work with this archive.

What I can't do know is get it to connect to the internal GPS. I've set it to Com9 which all the other mapping applications use, the amber light comes on telling me the GPS is activated, but it won't get a lock.

Help please.
Hello.

I recently went through the steps of downloading the software and storing my own maps on my phone, but now I am confused as to how I can calculate a route, or even a line that specifies the best route/directions to take.

I have a Blackberry Curve 9300 3G, however, I do not have a data plan. I have stored maps of my local area on my SD card, but every time I command it to "Get Directions", it simply says "No Route Found".

I can see my GPS location just fine, and I can even zoom into my maps and see everything on it. The option to get directions doesnt work though. Any suggestions?

Also, I have WiFi at my home, but this problem still exists even when I am connected to the internet, so I'm not sure what the issue with finding routes is (unless this program cannot do that). You may PM me or reply here. Thanks.

I have an old Blackberry Pearl 8110, GPS is either switched off by my cell phone company or simply not working.

O/S is 4.5.102
MG Maps v1.41.27

I have had Google Maps working on this and it was not picking up the GPS, but it was able to approximate my postiion based on cell towers.

Now I want to use MGMaps becaused of the stored map feature.

MGMaps appears to have the same feature (Settings > GPS > Cell Tower GPS) but I cannot get it to function.

Any hints?

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere...I searched and couldn't find anything.

                                      Hi all!

I have subj phone. GPS tracking of MGMaps(1.42.01 and 1.39.21 lg touchscreens) in offline mode with cached google maps of Moscow(for example) was worked like a charm, but with cached maps in Sanya(Hainan, China) it is not working now.

Internal GPS software is working.
Google maps GPS is working.

What should I do for success with GPS now?

P.S. Sorry for my English

I have this installed on a Virgin Mobile Rumor Touch (LG VM510) and the update speed of the internal GPS is pretty slow. I timed it and the update is happening about once every 15 seconds. It is accurate and aquires position pretty fast when it first fires up.
I have used it with stored google maps and web(yahoo) maps and both modes have the update problems.
I have tried all of the GPS settings (5Hz update, update interval = 1 sec) and they do not seem to have an effect.

I have also used google maps on this phone and update speed is very fast - at least 1 per second.

Note: Virgin Mobile works on top of Sprint networks. This is the same phone as the LG LN510 used on Sprint, but it has Virgin mobile firmware.

Note: I am using the LG touchscreen version 1.39.21-lg of the software. the newest version (beta) will not load on my phone.

                                      Bonjour à tous,

Je possède un LG GT505 accompagné d'un abonnement chez SFR.
Il m'est impossible d'utiliser le gps interne autrement qu'avec le logiciel propriétaire SFR Find and Go.
I just got the samsung impression. ATT has an installed app gps navigator, but paying $10 a month is out of the question when i only pay that much for internet anyway. Google maps sucks because it isnt touch screen compatable with this phone. So i come to mobile g maps. works great only with as many options that i have played around with, i cannot get the gps to get a reading from my phone. Help. any solutions?

aGPS uses communication with the nearby cellphone towers to help triangulate your position along with the GPS satellite positioning. I could be wrong but I don't think that part uses Internet connection, but some kind of data transmission for sure.

The bulk of the usage charge from using MGMaps should be coming from downloading the maps on the fly, shouldn't it? Each time you move or zoom in/out it downloads those blocks of map data to display.

If you have an unlimited data plan, then there shouldn't be any additional charges.

Is it possible to make a version that will allow the internal GPS antenna on a Motorola QA1 and will function with MGMaps? I am on the AT&T network in the United States. I have downloaded multiple versions and as long as they are signed versions they work on my phone but don't access the GPS even when internal is selected. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the only software I have found that will even work on the MOTOROLA QA1 Karma. After trying all signed versions I'm pulling my hair out.

I noticed a Motorola A780 signed version that addressed multiple phones but the certificate was exprired. It covered internal GPS as well.

Thanks,
Hi,

I have an LG GC900 touch screen mobile the program works and I can get a GPS fix. But I don't have access to any number pad of any description when the program is active so I can't push any of the short cut keys. i.e. center on GPS, change map etc etc.

Does anyone know how I can get it to work???

Cheers,
So has anyone ever got this to work on a Samsung Reclaim?
I've tried all the various procedure to turn on the cert, activate root access, etc as descirbed here:
http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?p=2190#2190

Can get the maps to work (google and MGMaps), but they do not seem to acknowledge the phone's internal GPS (that is, no location!)

I downloaded the sprint version signed MGMAPS and turned on Dev Cert.

Now I can load the map smoothly, however, the GPS does not locate at all. When I select internal GPS it keeps saying internal GPS feathers are not available on this phone (I am free this phone comes with aGPS).

Does anyone successfully install MGMaps on this model? Is there any hidden code we can use to turn on internal GPS?

Thanks a lot.
GPSPort have installed and to start it.

My GPS receiver is work on com7 and baud rate 4800.

It can work on Garmin with GPS.

In Mgmaps ,I want to do with com7,like work in Garmin.

When I try the option serial, then it says "No serial ports are available on this phone"

and other choice can't work , only GPSGate can select.

But even I selected GPSGate mod , Mgmaps still can't work in GPS.

Is there any way to select “serial” ?
Guys,

Just bought a Sony Ericsson Hazel couple of days and have been trying to get the internal GPS working with MGMaps.

1. I have installed the application v 1.39 on my mobile without any problems
2. Have downloaded google map tile for my location and is getting displayed in the maps

However, when I try to use the 'Where Am I'? function in the GPS menu, I'm getting a GPS error - "GPS position not yet determined. Make sure the phone can receive/determine GPS information and the satellite signal strength is good. wait for a few seconds then try again"

What am I doing wrong here? I have enabled GPS in the Location services>settings menu

In the MGMaps application, internal GPS is selected and I have changed the map location to stored, offline and the map is getting displayed

How do I get to determine my GPS position? Is there a way I could test if the internal GPS is working?

It would be really helpful if somebody can help me out on this.

Thanks, VJ

The left and right arrow key work just fine.

The UP / DOWN are currently set to Zoom IN / Zoom OUT. When I switch to "joystick mode" and use the number keys, the map starts to pan but doesn't stop, it just scrollls continually until it hits the very edge of the map.

Updated to the latest firmware, no avail.
I then messed around with the GPS settings of the receiver, tuned it to 5Hz, and viola, I managed to get a 1Hz update on my phone (with a 5Hz update rate...)
MGMaps is working fine with "Internal" as GPS device (but the heading pointer is still on&off), GMXT is having 1Hz update, Ovi Maps working @ 1Hz...
At least I got the sat nav apps running in a usable state, but not jumping from point to point.
Thanks.

I'm really eager to start using MGMaps, but even though the Nokia 3711 I bought from T-mobile has been unlocked, I can't get the phone to allow access to any 3rd. party app that use the internal GPS or needs to connect to the Internet. Under OPTIONS on the phone the "Allow Application Access" option is greyed out.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to deal with this?
Thanks!
MGMaps will report any errors with GPS initialization in the error log, you can access it with Help/Debug Log.
Hi, Gristian, Thank you for the help.

After I got the GPS initialization error, I checked the Debug Log, there was nothing there except some memory information. If I tried to zoom in someplace without a map, the debug log reported no image data.

I just used the built-in test suite of 9700, and it seemed that my GPS didn't work at all. It used to work, very slow though. I tried to fix my GPS first.
