ok, now that I can use MGMaps offline I can experiment by myself...
Fine, I was able to load a KML containing some points. But I see path KMLs are not supported... or Idon't know how to load tracks.

If you think it could be useful... As I said, my AGPS is gone. I can only use MGMAPS with external GPS, or as a mapper. Actually, reading from file system would be less expansive...

OK, this sounds interesting. How did you test port 5322? Did you write a short midlet for that?

Yeah, it may be a permission issue too... Can you help test some development versions of mgmaps on your A1000?

Yes, but all these location methods are already supported by MGMaps. I mean - it checks for Motorola API and if available uses it instead of the default location API.

I found a test midlet which looks for Location APIs availability; on my a1000, it reports NO location API available, BUT Motorola location API available!

So, maybe there's a different method to access location API in j2me for a1000?

Second line from bottom gives a positive result on my a1000.
Does this mean that to access Location on a1000 we should use com.motorola.location.AggregatePosition rather than javax.microedition.location.LocationProvider, which gives negative result instead?

Second trick is here: it says that AGPS output can be accessed by connecting to port 5322 of localhost! It would be really cool, as it wouldn't require any kind of location API! But it does not work on my a1000, I get a "SymbianOS error -34" (?). Maybe we should try another port? Or it's just my problem, being my AGPS burnt out since several months?

I also have a 3rd idea: as MIDPSSH client didn't work properly on my a1000 after installing directly the JAR, I found out that permission can be specified in JAD files also in a1000, which usually does not require JAD files to install midlets. Can you try the generic version 1.38.03 and see if it works (except for the GPS)? I'll be working on a GPS-enabled version, let me know if you could help with testing on your phone.

I have tried to run this application on my Motorola A925, the stable release 1.32.03 runs great except i can´t connect the internal GPS. I´ve try to install with MotoMidMan but it´s no differens?
And this very new Alpha 1.35.02 just crash and i´ve got the following error message after "Application loading, please wait" message:

Hi all,

Thanks for all the code and info from this forum.
Can you please help me get my e1000 work with mgmaps?

I have instaled-it, granted access with motomum, selected internal gps receiver.
Now when i start the program my agps sign from the top flickers from white to red...and i cannot get a GPS position.

OK, then you should keep low memory on until I find out what the problem is. It could be that the phone allocates too little memory to the java application, and if that is the case there's nothing I can do.

No, at least I wasn't notified of such anywhere out in the open. Dunno if J2ME on the E1K will throw those in your face. Knowing Motorola, they'll rather crash the entire phone than irritate the user with cryptic errors

That's actually related to Navizon support, and will of course be removed from platforms where it doesn't run (like Motorola). Of course it's a bug, it should not retry to connect if it fails the first time it tries. I wonder though why the app stopped loading tiles... did you get any out-of-memory errors?

Uhm, ok, so I'm not exactly the target group with my E1000. Tried it nonetheless, with less than enthusiastic results. It stopped loading tiles after the initial 4 or so. After that it continued to try and TCP connect to 127.0.0.1:6284 but that was it.

There's something in the back of my mind that this was an alternative way to connect to the internal GPS, IIRC. Mind you, GPS was set to 'none' though in mgmaps ... very bizarre.

Hi,

any chance there will be an updated com.motorola.location API version of mgmaps anytime soon? Looks like the one currently available for download is showing first signs of bit rot -- using Google maps seemingly is broken (tracing the network traffic indicates it keeps getting 404 errors), whereas all other services still work (even the sat images part of Google Maps -- go figure! ).

So I guess no one is interested. Motomidman can't connect to my phone and therefore I can't use this great software for my A1000. It's really sad, mgmaps must be the best GPS-nav out there. Could someone please assist?

creating a patch for unlocking the things that GMaps need? A small installation file which unlocks just the things needed for GMaps for the A1000? The software is already there, a patch that unlocks is all that is needed. It would be much easier and worth paying for if someone could create this...

So i guess nobody offers the guide step by step to get it to work. Still it seems you have to be close to a hacker to get this to work. I have been trying to follow this tread with all hints and tips along with it.

Is there really no other way to get this to work? Or could someone please offer the guide to install this the correct way?

Regarding the 3 devices that get added when you tell windows to use the P2K drivers under motomidman, the devices are as follows:

Accessories interface
Data logging mcu interface
Text command interface

Hope this helps in some way.

When I added A1000 REL to mode 2 however and connected the phone motomidman appeared to connect for a moment and then stopped responding to windows.

I'm not sure I understand what it's about. JNI is only available for J2SE programs, not for J2ME... is there a J2SE JVM available on A1000?

Anyway, if the C++ code is functional, maybe the author can adapt it to work like Navizon works - as a "proxy" between MGMaps and the gps device, forwarding all GPS statements to MGMaps using TCP/IP. I'll see if I can contact him.

Sorry about the double posting, but I think this might deserve a new post.

I have found a project on sourceforge, that is supposed to allow access to to the a100 gps from java, via jni (Java Native Interface) ... unfortunately the seems to be no documentation beyond that...

When downloaded, the program seems to at least be able to access the gps (which is not really a suprise I guess), but the weather around here sucks, so at no luck getting a connection. Maybe a few of you guys should check it out and maybe we can get a little wiser...

Here's What I did (by memory):

1. First I disconnected the cable (I was also using the USB cable)

4. When windows asks for drivers I pointed in to the ones that came with
MotoMidMan.

I think that symbian (the operating system for the A1000) simply uses a different method of storing the priviliges...

Hi all

I've got a motorola A1000 and would really to use the internal gps for this software, so naturally I've been messing with the information in this thread.

While I have gotten Moto MIDlets Manager to connect to the phone, that is about all it will do. When connected it doesn't show any installed aps, even though I do have opera mini installed too. And when I press the refresh button (to fetch the information), the phone does a sort of restart (most of the time it just restart without me having to enter my PIN.). It makes no difference if i'm using mode 4 or mode 2, its the same result.

The thing I would really like to know is whether anyone has actually used this program to activate the gps in an actual A1000. The A1000 (and the other Axxx phones) are not listed as compatible with MotoMidMan (according to what babelfish are telling me.) As far as I have been able to determine, the E1000 and A1000 are not running the same operating system (according to this page), and I am thinking that maybe that program is not supposed to work on symbian phones?

Please note that I am not an expert on these things and I might be totally wrong, so I would like som comments on this,

If people are interested I could post some further details of what I did, and what other things I have tried.

Hi, d'you mean add A1000 REL to the mode2 line in the configuration file that has been referenced in this forum before? Otherwise Im not sure how you would put an A1000 in mode 2? I will give it a go and post my findings here asap.

The newest version is V1.28.08 with support for Motorola internal GPS. Make sure to enable the internal Moto GPS in your phone and in the MGMaps settings. You have to install MGMaps with MotoMidletsManager so that MGMaps can access the GPS. The main build 1.28.09 does not include the Motorola location API. So with this version you can watch maps but can't use the internal GPS of the E1000.

@chrysanthemumman: What this means is that you should download and install the main version of MGMaps available under the first link at http://wap.mgmaps.com - do not download the version for Motorola phones. Then start MGMaps, go to Settings/GPS and set the GPS Device to "Internal", and GPS Sync to the desired value - see the documentation at http://www.mgmaps.com/doc.php#usage for more details.

Did you have enabled the agps service on your E1000 ?! You will find the option in settings -> phone status -> agps service. Make sure you are outside buildings and have a widely free sky around. If you have your phone in a case take it out.

Hmm, just an idea. Maybe we are wrong and the A1000 is a Mode2 phone and not Mode4. Maybe someone can try the strings "A1000 REL" with A1000 in Mode2, although the A1000 is a 3G phone.

Could sombody Kindly help.

Can you confirm *how* you got your a1000 to connect, Ive tried looking through the forum for answers to such a question and have found mention of:
editing MotoMidMan.ini to:

Mode4 = R26LD R26 E1000 REL A1000 <---added last 2 bits

I tried Mode2 = ..... REL A1000 <--------- tried this TOO didnt work
When I connect my a1000 i get prompted to install new hardware:
Install hardware for motorola accessory, I tell it to install automatically and it says cannot install this hardware.
I then get install motorola MCU data logger, I point it in the direction of the P2K_Drivers directory under motomidman and it says everything has installed okay, this happens 3 times.

Motomidlets manager tries to connect but after a bit says "Unsupported Platform cannot continue" OK at which point it tries again, and continues resetting my phone at the start of each attempt ad infinitum I presume?!?!

I am connecting to my computer via the motorola supplied usb cable btw as thats the only option I have available to me.

If Im missing something obvious please forgive me, but can anyone point me in the right direction of finding a solution aside from throwing my phone out the window.

I hope this question hasnt been put to the group a million times before.

It would really be great if someone who managed to install MGMaps on a Motorola (like mightyEx or k500zm) could write a step-by-step tutorial for installing and using motomidman in order to get mgmaps working. I mean, something that even people without a Motorola phone (like me) could understand.

For example, you could start with something like:

1) Make sure the phone is not connected to your PC.
2) Have a look at your Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc). Make sure Motorola Desktop Suite (MDS.exe) is not running, if it is kill it and also kill the two router tasks (***.exe).
3) Install motomidman before/after/together with the P2K drivers...
...

Yes, I have tried all that everybody has said above and still no luck. We need some step by step instructions for this.
a) How to install motomidman
b) How to connect the A1000 to motomidman (with all relevant and necessary settings on motomidman)
c) How to install the MGMAPS software.

Is there a guru out there?
