|

Hi, quick question, is it possible to install the app on sprint phones, specifically, the Samsung Instinct SPH-M800, without going through the whole process of enabling developer root access on my phone (quoted below from another post)?
------------------
First, enable developer root (Thanks rickgtx)
1) From a web browser, go to https://developer.sprint.com/site/global/develop/activation_device/p_device_activation.jsp
2) You can login with your SprintPCS login ID.
3) Click on the "Device/ESN Activation Go there now" link.
4) Click on the "Develop" Tab
5) On the left side, choose "Enabling device for activation"
6) Click "Device ESN Activation" (ESN is in HEX and case sensitive.
Use A, B, etc). The ESN is on your box or behind the battery.
7) Add your phone
After your phone is added, under "actions" choose active.
You might need to wait a few hours until the activation occurs.
Second, activate root access on your phone (Thanks MichaelAtUVa):
1) Call Sprint, *2, and ask for the MSL code for you phone. If they ask why
just say you are developing code for the phone.
2) Once you have it type ##3282# into the phone, a menu will popup.
3) Choose Advanced and then Edit.
5) Enter your MSL code.
6) Scroll down until you get to CERT (it was the second item for me.)
7) Hit the right direction to change it to ON.
Then hit END, this will restart the phone
Note: Make sure you do the instructions above before going any further,
or else Gmaps won't have necessary root access when you install it.
Third, download Mobile GMaps for Sprint GPS.
1) Check the this website for the latest download URL for Sprint GPS:
http://wap.mgmaps.com/
2) To make it easier than typing on the phone, you can text the URL to
yourself from http://messaging.sprintpcs.com/textmessaging/compose
3) Download and install the app on your phone
Fourth, set your phone to use internal GPS device:
1) From the main menu on the phone, go to Settings --> Others --> Location.
If it's set to Off, then turn it On.
2) From the main menu on the phone, go to My Content --> Applications.
Highlight Mobile Gmaps and select Options --> Settings --> Location --> Always Allow
3) Run Google Maps on your phone, and type 96 shortcut to get to the
GPS option, then click Select Device. Then choose Internal and Save.
Then you're set. Go back to run the application and play with it. Here's
instructions on how to use the app: http://www.mgmaps.com/help.php |

Bob, I also have an Instinct, when I go thru that procedure (##3262#) I can (view) (CERT) setting (OFF) but (CERT) vanishes when you enter the MSL and enter (edit) mode, any workarounds you or anyone else know of? Sprint's Proprietary everything sucks, we paid for the device and the wonderful "(NOT) EVERYTHING PLAN" now let us go! _________________ "Faster than a speeding bullit...." |
