|
|
I want to make a specific request for a very simple mod:
As you know, the ability to display a trail would be very nice. I thought that the kml service could be used for this, so I modded a gpx file into a simple minimal kml file, with the gpx track points converted to the kml place markers. Then I loaded the kml into mgmaps and it worked. Sort of...
So, I want to suggest some very simple mods to make this into an interim track display:
1. Allow more points than the 25 that is apparently allowed for now (my track file was truncated at 25 points).
2. Change the icon from the google ball into a much smaller red point (4 pixel?)
the above 2 trivial changes will give the ability to display a breadcrumb track, something very nice if you are not following roads, and even if you are following roads.
Then, users who manually or using a perl script can make track files with very little change to mgmaps.
Of course, the code to display a proper track is already written into the code with the find directions function. A simple mod to load a file instead of a google search data will also give the same or better functionality.

Here is my kml file. I made it by using a gpx file generated by toporoute, with some simple manual editing and using a regular expression script in TextPad.

Try TrekBuddy, it's very good at this.

A) Can I use Sanyo pro 200 with GMAPS and trackbuddy?
http://www.sanyowireless.com/product.aspx?v=98
It has autonomous GPS and supports multiple JAVA applications operating simultaneously
B) Do you aware of any software that passively tracks the mobile? It should store locations form time to time and we can download via USB or WIFI
Thanks

I don't have any reports about that, try it and see if it works.

There are many applications that do that, but usually they are specialized for smartphones and run as native apps (Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android, ...). The thing is - java applications cannot be started when the phone starts, and usually cannot run in background.

Another feature that will greatly improve the functionality of this great application.

I couldn't agree more, sounds like an EXTREMELY useful mod for any of us "outdoors types"

That sounds good too, though I might suggest using a 5-pix "plus" sign, or better yet, "x" instead...allows for slightly better visibility (3px wide/tall, instead of only 2), slightly better precision (1px center point, instead of 4px square point), and would generally make me personally feel cooler looking at it as either cross-hairs, or "X" marks the spot

No news, I've been quite busy with other projects so it's not going to be added to mgmaps very soon.
