im actually thinking of dumping nextel alltogether for this specific reason......why build a gps enabled phone if the only software that works with it is your own ?(TELENAV)

Christian....does the i930 use a model specific gps chip different from other nextel models ? is that why homebrew navigation software is so difficult ?

flipping i930's, What is with the GPS? I've tried just about every program out there, its a wonder the GPS works at all with telenav. If navigon would work at least we'd have a workaround. but not even that works! Its the whole reason I bought the i930

me too.....and stop trying as well...there is NO gps navigation system that can access the i930's internal gps , except telenav....trust me , ive tried them all...i seriously think nextel designed it that way so that if you wanted navigation...you would have to subscribe to telenav.....i gave up and just subscribed...like i said in my previous post...im getting ready to switch to another carrier that actually lets the gps be accessed by any third party application.

not entirely true, mologogo works. its just a matter of the programming.

Have you decerted your phone yet?

That would be an issue with 3rd party software, but as for gps access, what would be perfect is if someone would program a virtual com port for the i930's gps.....it would be a cure all. If I had more time I would take a crack at it.....Its possible, because navizon can establish a virtual port on the i930, and mologogo can access the GPS.....so it is possible. Just needs to be made.

Sorry, but support for GPS on Motorola iDEN phones is not high priority for me at this point. There is a Motorola iDEN GPS API, but it's not the only thing to be added - those phones also have a crippled JVM which means they need a custom version of other parts of the code too.

Crippled JVM? Not the i930....We can run almost any java program we throw at it. the i415, I'd agree with that statement.....i855......nah its pretty solid too...

If you were to put the api in the gps code with the current generic version I am fairly sure it would work for the majority of us nextel users.

I'll work on it next week if I have time and post in this thread when it's ready.

Hey xtc, you use mologogo at all? Its pretty cool program that works on our phones. Has everything but turn by turn......

Even local area search.. Its what i've been using until I can find something better, which I am still looking. I don't want to give up yet.

Guys, try the version attached, it implements Sprint functionality using a different API, it might work on nextel phones too.
