Hi there, trying to get this running on WM2003, PPC6600. Is there a main class in this JAR file or what? Tried to get J9 to start by registering a .JAR file in the registry with the following params:

"blah\J9.exe" "-jcl:ppro10" -cp "%1"

The console comes up like the app is finished when I tap on the JAR file in explorer... HELP MEEEEE!!

Hi,

This is a J2ME application, so there is no main class in it - it contains a midlet that should be run by J9. Normally J9 should associate with .jad and .jar files and start the application by simply opening the jad or the jar file.

Well... I installed J9 with the installer that it came with from IBM. However, there was no entry in the registry for 'JAR' or 'JAD' files, so I manually added them, based on the registry file that I found in this tutorial :

http://www.firstloox.org/forums/archive/index.php?t-6197.html

AND, I found out that the "%1" really needs to be "file:///%1"... so now, I am getting an exception thrown, namely 'java.kang.NoClassDefFoundError' when running mgmaps.jar

Any ideas?

Ah, I see... so you're using a newer version of J9 that came with no installer, that's why it was not associated with jar and jad files. If nothing else works, you can try installing J9 version 5.7.2 (the older one), it's available here.

Shocked

Ohmy... no one out there said that there were TWO IBM 'websphere micro environments bet you'll never remember what we call it' 's!!! There's a

'WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment MIDP 2.0 for Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition'

and also a

'WebSphere Everyplace Micro Environment Personal Profile 1.0 for Windows Mobile 2003 2nd Ed.'

I installed the PPRO one, so I am under the impression that I purchased and installed the WRONG ONE, seeing as how everyone here is talking about the JAR files as being MidLets.... ARG!!! Why is there no documentaion that is available detailing all of this?? Each one of these files to download is like, 85 MEGS, because they put the linux and the windows versions in there...

Needless to say... I'm a little peeved. Anyhow, I have another 30 minutes to scour the net before my download of the MIDP version completes.

Mad

ALRIGHT!!

It finally works... The MIDP version of WEME (you know, they should call it MEME, because that's the sound I was making earlier when trying to get it installed and figured out!!! mememememe!!!) set up the registry keys properly.

ATTENTION ALL NOOBIES

If you want to use the IBM J9, make sure you download the one that says it's for MIDP, you can find it on handango here

DON'T install the one that comes up on GOOGLE when you search 'handango J9', or at least be careful that you are downloading the right one.

I think I'll pick my bits of hair off the floor and out of my keyboard and try to glue them back on now.

THANKS!

Nono... it's not your fault. It's IBM I would say.

In this configuaration (IMATE JAM WM2003SE + IBM J9) , I have the problem of bluetooth dropping off after about 20 mins of using mgmaps. The bluetooth icon on the phone is shown as disabled, even tho the blue LED blinks. If I try to re-activate it, I get an error message about device not being found or something.

There are so many variables that I am not sure if its a problem with MS BT stack or IBM J9... Anyone has the same problem?

Report: IBM J9 on Tmobile SDA/HTC Tornado

I was tring to install MGMaps on my SDA. I tried according to this post first: http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?t=670. And I failed. It showed me an error message "Unable to verify digital signature".

Later on, I tried with IBM J9 according to this post: http://www.mgmaps.com/winset/, and this post: http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?t=664&postdays=0&postorder=asc&&start=0. And I failed again. I got another error message "Invalid fontPaths.properties detected. Please delete fontPaths.properties in /lib/jclMidp20/ and restart the MIDlet."

I googled keywords: LcduiSystemFont, fontPaths.properties and /lib/jclMidp20/. I didn't get any solution.

There's a post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1091340&postcount=4 mentioned this file. But it didn't solve my problem.

Finally, I found this post and this post: http://www.modaco.com/IBM_MIDP_semi_success_and_a_question-t237076.html with keyword fontPaths.jar.

Their error message is about fontPaths.jar, while mine is about fontPaths.properties instead. I guess that's because they're different versions. Instead of the lastest 6.1, they were using 6.0.

I got the old version of J9 from that site. It worked finally! But I still got a problem, which is I couldn't enable "Stored maps" option.

Then I installed the 2 fixed files within wsdd5.0.jar. And problem solved. MGMaps works now on my Tmobile SDA!

Credit goes to spadival and jockyw2001. Thanks a lot for your help.

Thanks for your feedback about this. I don't know whether I should update the instructions at http://www.mgmaps.com/winset/ - maybe some other Windows-Mobile users have similar problems and confirm they all need to follow the additional steps you described...

Would be nice if you add the steps to install JSR-75 and the remedy for the potential font problem on SDA.

I added the steps for JSR-75... what was the final remedy for the font problem? Did you install another version of WEME? What is the URL for it?

cunyalen wrote that to solve the font problem he got an older version of J9 from http://www.modaco.com/IBM_MIDP_semi_success_and_a_question-t237076.html

Just add that line for WM users.
