Yes, as in my signature, v1.39.21. I did not try the latest development version.
If this feature is removed there - then I'll ask to restore it.

Hello,

with MGMaps 1.73pre i downloaded Yahoo Maps for whole Germany from zoom 0 to 15.
This took about two days and there are now some hundred thousends of files.
Now it try to use the Tool MapAlive and try to open the MGMapsCache-Folder (i want to compress the files then).
This took about 3 hours, the machine got much slower, but in the end i only could read there:

No tiles found

Is this the possibility? MapAlive took three hours to realize that there are no tiles? There are tiles. Many tiles.
Maybe too many for MapAlive?

I used the commandline:

java -Xms32m -Xmx256m -jar MapAlive.jar

I have Windows XP SP3 with 4 GB RAM and Dual Core 2,1 GHz. 400GB HDD so the machine is big enough.

Thank you, Regards, franc

Could it be that Yahoo (like Google does in the case of mass-downloading) has sent you an incorrect set of tiles?
Not sure, though, if MapAlive checks a tile file for validity...

Awkward. Can you upload tiles (zoom level 0-4, for example)?

You could open a tile file with any picture viewer that is PNG-capable: just rename a file .MGM->.PNG and check what's there. Look for a file bigger than ~500 bytes, otherways it could be an uninteresting tile all gray or blue - a piece of the Ocean or deserted land area.

It works with smaller Maps (less files), so i guess it is something like a timeout or overflow. But there is no errormessage, that is the problem. So i don't know what to change to get this large maps compressed.
May be running with different parameters?

But IrfanView doesn't do it? Tell me a png-capaple program! How can i see all the pictures in one file?

If there is an overflow, MGMaps should output error message in console window. You may try:
Code:
java -Xms32m -Xmx512m -jar MapAlive.jar

As far as know, there are no programs (apart from the MGMaps itself) to view an MTPF, only an individual tile is viewable as a PNG.

No. Still "No Maps found" after 4 hours of hard (and annoying) work.
Is this a bug? Did you test the MapAlive with very large maps?

This is to read in the console:

"Out of Memory..." How much do you think will be enough?
I have 4 GB (3 only because of XP 32bit) in my machine...

Yes, it requres more memory. Try
java -Xms512m -Xmx2048m -jar MapAlive.jar

That bolded part is maximum space for heap size. You have 4GB RAM, so you might try to enlarge it even more.

Thank you. I tried 2048, but this was already too much:
Code:
>java -Xms32m -Xmx2048m -jar MapAlive.jar
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.

So i tried 1024 and goodheavens, it worked. After some hours MapAlive found it!
At the moment it is compressing the tiles.

I set 128 tiles per file, is this the best amount?

It depends on the phone you're using, but generaly it should be fine.

Just out of curiosity, how many tiles were there?

A BlackBerry 8900 Curve with OS 4.6.1.310

A good question, i guess more than one million.
I cannot tell you, because if i tried to open a folder with totalcmd or explorer, it took very long, too long, till one folder was open. It blocked too much.

Just an example:

The folder for YahooMap_14 is 1.4 GB!
The 15-zoom-folder i didn't check, it takes too long.

MapAlive is still working on 14, which is at the moment 1.3 GB. I wonder how big will be the 15 compressed.
Maybe it is then bigger than my MemoryCard (8GB), then all was in vain Smile

EDIT: 2010-01-13:
YahooMap_15 is now 1.9 GB, and MapAlive is still working. But i stopped it overnight (Hibernation).
...
15 is at the end (after about maybe 10 hours) 4.1 GB.
Now all together it is 6.7 GB, MapAlive said:

Tiles sucessfully saved!

There are now 16971 mgm-files. Containing whole germany with Zoom 0 to 15 on YahooMaps.

What could be useful is a 'Pause' Button, to continue MapAlive later.

On big maps MapAlive slows down the machine and the best would be to start it over night (or on idle) - if not finished the morning then stop it and continue the next evening.
