Yes, that's what I want to do for quite some time. A user should be able to pause, or cancel current operation.

I'm still beginner with Java programing, and this requires multi-threading which I'm not yet accustomed to.

Tiles downloaded by gMapMaker works fine whether they are multiple tiles (32768) or singe tile per file. After converting (32768 to 64 tiles/file) through MapAlive tile don't work in MGmaps in mobile (N82).

I just compressed a big map with MapAlive and choosed 1024 Tiles per file on my BlackBerry 8900 Curve with OS 5.0.0.681.

This works still fast and good in MGMaps and the files are up to 16 MBytes!

So this is what i will use in future only: 1024 Tiles.

Is there a way to compile a new map into a already compiled map?

I have compiled several GoogleMaps with mapalive to one GoogleMap for my phone and now i want to put another map into it.
I don't want to put all the already compressed maps with the new map into a new folder and compress all the stuff again.
Is there a possibility to just add a new map?

If not: this would be a great feature!!!

Thank you,

Regards, franc

It's not currently possible, but you could use Map Tile Cacher from http://www.mgmaps.com/cache/.

Ah, but how?
This Perlscript is not commented and so i don't know how to use it so that already existing maps are included.
This is the only thing i want to do by the way, i want to glue existing MapAlive-Maps of different areas together. I don't need to download them again.

I think you just have to keep existing map tiles in MGMapCache folder in which you download more tiles. You must keep the same settings for already downloaded tiles and for new ones.

The script first checks if there is already tile in the cache. If there is, the script skips that tile, and if there isn't it appends the new tile to the cache.

It is working! Great!

Only drawback is that i can only download one zoomlevel at a time. I didn't find how to download more than one.

And after a while GoogleMap is blocking my IP so i have to switch every maybe 700 tiles (in compression 1024).

EDIT:
But after reviewing the perlscript i found already the right thing for the blocking from google:

i put:

Code:
$sleepTime = 10;
$sleepEvery = 100;

and later i changed:

Code:
if ((($actualTileCount+1) % $sleepEvery) == 0 && index($MapType,"Sat") != -1)

to:

Code:
if ((($tileCount+1) % $sleepEvery) == 0)

And now the script is stopping after 100 tile-downloads for 10 seconds, i hope this is enough.

EDIT: 2010-11-06: it is not $actualTileCount but $tileCount which was a bug. And sleep 10 sec after 500 is too late. After 200 tiles already it can happen that google stops and give some Errors.
So i put it to 100, but i have not much hope that there is a way to download it on one peace with the same IP.
I don't know how gMapMaker does it, because here there is normally no error.

No, it is not working, i get ERROR after a while what ever i do. I need then to change my IP and then i can continue a bit.
The proxy-server in the script are working not at all. This part seems at least buggy (http/mt instead of http://mt).

I give up, because i don't know how to use proxy server here and how.

Ambra, couldn't you easily implement this into your MapAlive? This would it make much more useful!
Thank you.

I just discovered, that all the time gMapMaker was able to compress many tiles to one file like MapTileCacher.perl and much better and bugfree (as i think yet).
So no more need to hussle with MapTileCacher, just set in gmapmaker the Hash: 1 and Tiles: 1024

For GoogleTer i had to fix the url in gMapMaker.exe.config
It should be this:

Code:
            <setting name="GoogleTerURL" serializeAs="String">
                <value>http://mt{GOOG_DIGIT}.google.com/vt/lyrs=t@126,r@140&hl=en&x={X}&y={Y}&z={ZOOM}&s={GALILEO}</value>
            </setting>

It was lyrs=t@108,r@121 which doesn't work (anymore?).
You can get this string by analyzing the original google terrain urls, when opening a map in google.

Then the GoogleTer works perfectly.
And now i just add new tiles to my existing tiles on my phone if i need a new map.
Very easy. I should have known earlier...

Hy there and thanks for this great app. So my problem is this, i downloaded a map ( openstreetmap - mapnik ) for Romania zoom 1-13 and 17 at hash 1 tile size 1, for zoom 17 there are to many files to fit in a fat32 folder ( over 36000 ) and i can't use it now. Then i tryed using MapAlive to convert them to 1024tile and after that at 256tile but it doesn't display the map. I use mgmaps 1.4x generic version. If i use downloaded maps works just fine. Also i created a custom map named BloreAlive. Any help would be welcome.
As attachment i added zoom lvl 1-7 of the 1024tile converted map.

Hi, poemihai!

At first look it seems to me it's the same problem I noticed earlier. I'm not sure what causes the problem, but at the time, I thought it was limited to one Linux version.

I'll investigate it a little bit, and correct the problem.

Please report your configuration (OS, Java version)...

Please download newly uploaded version. I'm not sure if I changed anything, but this version works fine on my platform.
Let me know the results.

Ohh Very Happy well i use Windows 7 x64 ultimate and java version 6 update 23 (think this is the last update available).

PS: i just uploaded the new converted map with the Mapalive u linked earlyer just waiting for my phone to update it's file list and will give u an answer as soon as posible. (quite a long ps heh)

PSS: No good, still doesn't shows the map.

Edit: why does it need to create a custom map and can't just use in my case openstreetmap setting? i mean isn't it still same type even after i change it's tile number?

I'm not sure I understand...
Can you upload one original folder (let's say only zoom level 6 or some other which has only few hundered tiles)?

What i meant is i use mapalive for zoom 17 openstreetmap and convert it to let's say 64 tiles, why the need to create a custom map type in mgmaps config named BloreAlive and not use the old config for Openstreetmap? Or maybe i missunderstood the actual steps i need to follow.
I have attached a few tiles from zoom 17 after conversion and some from the original downloaded map with 1tile, maybe u can make a comparison.
Also a short step-by-step how to use map alive would be good maybe i skip something.
