Cris, The app seemed very stable initially. Even though I made calls or recieved calls, the app dint close. But Music player(Running in the Background) after some time closes.
From my observation I feel that the memory occupied is not released when not required. So initially when enough memory is available, the app works like a charm. Later apps in the background close followed by mgmaps with an unhandled exception. |

I've noticed a similar behavior (and had contacted Cristian a few days ago). Looks like the memory usage is so high that camera software can't work while mgmaps is minimized.
(actually, the firmware does not allow to use camera while running any Java midlet, but I've applied a patch to remove this restriction and it works very well) |

What patch is it? Will it work on a S60 V3 phone? Where do I get it from? |

It's for Sony Ericsson K750i/W800i phones. These phones don't allow you to use camera software while you have any Java midlet open. This patch simply removes this check.
Note, however, that camera software suddenly closed when I tried to take a photo while mgmaps was running (and that patch does not help in this case). This means mgmaps probably use lots of memory, because I can take photos while running other software, like Opera Mini. |

I found TrekBuddy http://www.linuxtechs.net/kruch/tb/forum/index.php it works only with offline maps, it's a very nice tool but there is no zoom.
What I'm interested is that it doesn't have certificate/signing isue on my Nokia 6230i it says in changelog that it's a Thawte CA certificate.
In the list of certifacates on my phone I have two VeriSign certificates (is Mobile GMaps signed by VeriSign?):
ou=VeriSign Trust Network cn=VeriSign Class 3 Public Primary Cerification Authoroty - G3
ou=VeriSign Trust Network cn=VeriSign Class 3 Code Signing 2001 CA ou=Class 3 Public Primary Cerification Authoroty;
Valid from: 3.december 2001
Valid to: 2.december 2011
Finger print: 2C:07:5D:C9...
Serial number: 71 78 4C EB CF...
The second one should be it, or am I wrong I can type the whole finger print if iit helps? |

Mobile GMaps is signed with a Verisign certificate. Do you have problems installing it on Nokia 6230i?

I have problems, I already reported this on page 19 of this thread:
| Cristian Streng wrote: | | McLane wrote: | | Cristian Streng wrote: | | McLane wrote: | | I instaled it from Nokia PC Suite, when i try to run it from the phone it says "Invalid application" and it's grey colored. I tryed downloading it directly from wap but I got an error that the file is too big or something. |
OK, and the unsigned version (v1.33.11) works fine? |
Yes, all unsigned versions work (from v1.33.11 to v1.34.02). The problem is allowing application to acces MMC card every time it loads new image. But otherwise all works well I stored all Europe GoogleMap zoom 4-9, Slovenia from 10-13 and GoogleSat images of Malta zoom 10-14. |
I understand, I don't know what happens with the 6230i (yet)... |
I missed 2 more certificates from VeriSign in my phone:
ou=Class 3 Public...
ou=Class 3 Public...
Again I can send you the fingerprints or serial numbers of this certificates if this will help, of course if this is the problem in the first place. |

I see... well Verisign should actually be supported on more phones than Thawte, but it could be the problem with Nokia 6230i. I found this technical note at Nokia, it reports that some certificates are missing on some phones, including the 6230 (but doesn't say anything bout the 6230i). I'll check some more.

I'm using Unlocked Tmobile SDA. Using MapTileCacher.perl, I downloaded MicrosoftMaps for 2degree*2degree around NYC area at zoom 17 level. It takes over 400M which is actually over 200M.
I downloaded mgmaps-alpha-signed.jad, mgmaps-alpha-signed.jar. I actually had an old version(1.33.0 which is just 604bytes.
Then I put everything at /Storage Card/Program Files/MGMAPS.
So basically, I have mgmaps-alpha-signed.jad, mgmaps-alpha-signed.jar, MGMapsCache and the old version mgmaps.jad.
Then I ran mgmaps-alpha-signed.jad, it prompted to install MIDlet. I did. Then I highlighted MGMaps to run it. It prompted to access network. I denied. Then I saw the Gmaps interface. Then I checked settings/maps browsing. There was no such an option as "stored maps".
Then I ran mgmaps-alpha-signed.jar, it prompted to install MIDlet. I forgot if I installed it again. Then I entered MGMaps and check settings. I saw "stored maps", checked it, and changed the path. It could save the path. But it couldn't save the "stored maps" option and che cache size.
*everything time, I run it, it'll prompt to install MIDlet which needs to connect to internet. But I want to use it without internet access.
Then I closed it. And I tried mgmaps-alpha-signed.jad again, now it showed me error message "Unable to verify digital signature". I click ok and entered the MGMaps. I also saw the "stored maps" option and the path. I checked but I couldn't save it.
I also tried the old version mgmaps.jad, which would also let me install MIDlet every time. It also got "stored maps" option, but I couldn't save it.
Somebody mentioned that we could uninstall and reinstall. But I don't see this program in "Remove Programs".
What can I do now?
Thanks a lot. |

Try using IBM J9 JVM instead of the Java midlet manager that comes with the phone. Instructions to install J9 is on a different thread somewhere. |

I think what you are saying is this thread: http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?p=3049&sid=c127a409767f15b45c5c2b4fb7ef3951.
Or http://www.mgmaps.com/winset/.
I'll try that.
Actually, if I enable internet access, Java midlet works fine. I got the maps. But I wonder what the problem is.
I think I should use .jad instead of .jar. But I didn't have the "stored maps" with jad. After I tried jar, I got it. But I can't save it.
Another thing is how to uninstall it. Since I ran the jar file, things changed. It must have installed something in my phone. I tried to delete the files and uploaded it again, but it didn't work.
But anyway, I'll try IBM J9. Thanks a lot. |

I installed the file like this post says: http://www.mgmaps.com/winset/. I tried and got this error.
Invalid fontPaths.properties detected. Please delete fontPaths.properties in /lib/jclMidp20/ and restart the MIDlet.
When I first installed J9 in my computer, there was no such a file. Now it's created with 0 byte.
I deleted that file, it creates another empty one and says The font file paths are set incorrectly. Please edit fontPaths.properties in /lib/jclMidp20/ to point to the appropriate font files from the system font folder.
Actually, I changed the system font according to this post: http://www.airfagev.com/howtos_details.asp?id=77. And I'm using sunglobe.ttf and the whole path is \Windows\Fonts\sunglobe.ttf. I found this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1091340&postcount=4. Accordint to that, I put in the file fontPaths.properties with "LcduiSystemFont: Windows\sungbloe.ttf". But I still have the problem.
Any advice?
Thanks a lot.[/i] |

No idea about the font path error. But for the tick against the storage card disappearing.. can u check the debug log under help menu in mgmaps. You can find out if it is trying to access some tiles on the storage card and check if the folder path is correct. |

Update: IBM J9 works, MGMaps still no good.
I got another version of J9 from http://www.modaco.com/IBM_MIDP_semi_success_and_a_question-t237076.html and it works.
In that post, their error message is "font file paths are set incorrectly. Please Edit fontPaths.jar in <VM Installation>/lib/jcmipd20/ext to point to the appropriate font files from the system font file". My error message is about fontPaths.properties instead of fontPath.jar. I think they are using 6.0 version. My error is for 6.1 version.
I installed IBM J9, then installed mgmaps-alpha-signed.jad. It didn't give me any error about digital signature. After I logged in, I checked "stored maps", and clicked "Save". It showed that "Settings saved. Restart MGMaps if you have changed any storatge settings." Then I exit and restarted it. It turned out the "Stored Maps" was not saved at all. I can save everything else except this "stored maps" option and memory cache size.
Any clue?
Thanks. |

I had the exact same problem... Do you have JSR-75 installed like its mentioned in the post quoted below? Also ensure that your folder path is correct. Preferable to keep the folder path simple by putting the mgmapcache folder in \Storage Card.
We can continue this discussion here-> http://forum.mgmaps.com/viewtopic.php?p=3109#3109
Will benefit other Windows Mobile folks.
| jockyw2001 wrote: | The great new stored maps feature requires JSR-75 support. Unfortunately JSR-75 is not included in the standard IBM J9 package for WM5/6 devices.
Luckily IBM offers an extension which is easy to install. You only have to copy 2 files to the right location.
This is described in detail in the blog of Markus Brosch: http://www.markus.brosch.net/?p=111.
If you already installed IBM J9 then there are only 3 steps:
Download this jar from IBM. Unzip it. It contains a folder called fixed.
Copy: fixed\ive-2.2\runtimes\wm2003\arm\midp2\bin\fileconn.dll into this folder on you mobile device: \Storage Card\J9\MIDP20\bin\
Copy: fixed\ive-2.2\runtimes\wm2003\arm\midp2\lib\jclMidp20\ext\fc.jar into this folder on you mobile device: \Storage Card\J9\MIDP20\lib\jclMidp20\ext\
After you installed JSR-75 restart IBM J9 and start MGMaps, go into Settings - Map Browsing and select the "Stored Maps" checkbox. In the "Storage Path" textbox enter "/Storage Card" if you stored the offline map directory under the root directory of the memory card.

Hi spadival,
Yes, you are right. I got it work with the 2 files loaded.
Thanks a lot.
But in this post: http://www.mgmaps.com/winset/, it doesn't say this. I guess it's different for different phones. |

Hi all
Does anyone know the path name on a motorola V3X?, i have tried "/b" "b" "SD" "TRANS:" "B:".
I have coppied the MGMapsCache directory into the root folder of my card but i just cant get any of the maps showing. Not knowing what the path name is doesnt help either. I Have all tiles of New Zealand from zoom 0 to 9 on the phone. |

Cristian, when will MGMaps feature a little built-in directory selector which would allow the user to navigate to the desired directory? _________________ I have a Sony Ericsson K750i phone with 2GB Memory Stick Duo.
I also have a Nokia 6120 Classic with 4GB micro-SD.
I use Gentoo Linux distro. No, I don't have windows. |

Or even simply list the storage devices and not directory structures |
