What happens is when i run maptilefe it asks me to pick .map file so i type it in and then i get a list of what looks like errors, i canonly catch part of it before it closes saying not recognized as internal or external command i was trying to use the example . map files..any ideas?

Note that MapTileFE.pl tries to run MapTileCacher.perl, not .pl. Just rename the .pl file to .perl or change MapTileFE.pl to reference MapTileCacher.pl.

Attached is a map file for most of the Greater Toronto Area, in Ontario, Canada. I've also included the Kitchener-Waterloo region. Zoom levels 12-15, using Yahoo maps.

Area covered is as in the screenshot.. Thanks so much for all these great tools everyone!

I'm downloading the map outlined by this map file as I speak... hopefully it will work well on my P990i.

That's not difficult to create, for example:

GoogleMap
0-4 : -90,-180 : 90,180

You can replace 0-4 with the desired zoom levels and GoogleMap with the desired map type. Generally there are 4^zoom map tiles for a given zoom... (for zoom=4 there are 256 tiles, for zoom=6 there are 4096 tiles, and so on).

During the installation process, we were to rename the file "MapTileCacher.perl" to a new name, "MapTileCacher.pl".

This new script needs to see the file as "MapTileCacher.perl" though. Am I missing something, or do I need to have two copies of the same file in my GMaps directory, one named .perl and one named .pl ?

The MapTileFE.pl script uses indeed MapTileCacher.perl, so you can skip renaming the script if you're not going to run it standalone.

I don't have an answer for your question, but with all the places I've been visiting, I've given up on "Image Gallery" as the place to actually look at/for any images.

What I've done, is to create "albums" for each place or group of photos, then copy the photos there. My "image gallery" is overwhelming, but the individual albums are much better organized.

If I had this problem, and didn't have a good work-around, I'd let "Image gallery" accumulate anything and everything, and go to view my images in an album instead.

Hopefully there's a better solution. If not, I think you could "mark" everything but for the map images, and then copy them to your new album(s). For new photos, just set the camera to automatically add them to the appropriate album.

Seems like a bug in gMapMaker, I tried to change the spacing and still doesn't work... I'll email or PM the author of gMapMaker, hope he can find the bug and fix it.

Sure, you can email him with your suggestions (damien at debin dot net) and maybe CC the message to me (cristian dot streng at mgmaps dot com). He also has an account on this forum (gMapMaker).

I sent Cristian a new revision of gMapmaker beta to correct some bugs in the way gMapMaker read .map files with zoom levels between 0 and 9.

I think he will make it available soon (I attached the modified files only).

I tried to get a working world map and discovered it doesn't work for map like -90,-180:90,180 and I figured out why...

About valid range for longitude/latitude... Longitude should be within [-179.9999,179.9999] to avoid boundary (infinite) problems. Due to Google Map using Mercator projection and restricting this projection (to avoid infinite map towards poles), Google Map latitude is restricted to [- 85.0511,85.0511] (in fact, it's exactly (2*atan(exp(pi))-pi/2)*180/pi). I could not find any website talking about this restriction, but inverse mercator projection function gives me this restriction... and now it works !!!!

The new revision now checks if longitude/latitude is in a valid range : [- 85.0511,85.0511] for latitude and [-179.9999,179.9999] for longitude.

Damien
